As part of Adventist classics series, the late George Vandeman, then director and speaker of It it written Telecast presented a biblical response to the first gulf war against Saddam Hussein of Iraq. Saddam Hussein is said to have looked at himself as a successor of the ancient King Nebuchadnezzar of ancient Bablylon whose capital ruins are now part of modern Iraq. Just as the ancient King Nebuchadnezzar had attached among other nations Israel, Saddam Hussein also rained some scud missiles on Israel during this war. Pastor Vandeman then draws some lessons from King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream about a statute as found in Daniel 2. Daniel, one of the Jewish captives interpreted this dream as God’s revelation of the various powers that would rule the world up to the time when God will intervene through the kingdom that will have no end.
